Prayer Art Thoughts

God is here with us.

After having Breast Cancer in 2012 and radiotherapy then remission I decided to have an art exhibition for donations to Uralla "Can Assist" and did sell quite a few paintings one was the above pastel picture that I drew up a copy of Christ on the Mount of Olives from the great oil painting by

Josef Untersberger and Austrian painter under the pseudonym of Giovani. circa the 1920s

As a child I loved his painting we used to have it on our wall and it inspired me to meditate as well. My dearest father also loved it I think it is the peace that it shows and the sky cloud formation.
Of course the original has such depth and beauty below a photograph

Prayer and Art
“God is not remote from us. He is at the point of my pen, my (pick) shovel, my paintbrush, my sewing needle – and my heart and thoughts.” Teilhard de Chardin

A CREATIVE RESPONSE Prayerful creative expression can help us notice how our lives are constantly touched by Gods love. It can help us to see or hear or feel what is happening interiorly and so discover ways of responding to that love generously. In a happy, peaceful environment enjoy praying silently together with others.

Paint, write or use other creative means as you contemplate the chosen Scripture reading. Feel free to linger with any part of the prayer as you are moved to do.

PREPARE I begin by remembering that I am in God’s wonderful presence and that God delights in me.

DESIRE I ask God for the grace I long for. It might be to trust God more, or to be drawn closer to Jesus or to experience interior peace or God’s love for me, or to be able to respond to others with love, or notice goodness in my life. I allow that desire to touch me deeply.

READ I read the daily readings from the Mass through slowly two or three times and notice what part of the passage seems to touch me. Or recall a passage that has touched me recently and pray with that. Do Not Worry – Have Faith Matthew 26 -30 …26 "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 “yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!…

REFLECT I use my imagination noticing what comes to mind. I choose a small part of the passage that stands out for me. I may imagine I am present in the field maybe am sowing seed or digging a garden with my shovel (pick). What is it like? The smells? The sounds, the birdsong. I see the birds flying in the air. I touch the trees around me and let the soil pass through my hands as I am gardening or I move into the fields of lilies. I sense the goodness of creation, “every atom is full of infinite love” I imagine Jesus with me walking. Christ’s his innate loveliness as I walk through the fields of lilies. What do I say to him? How am I feeling? I listen for him to speak to me. What is his invitation? How does it touch me? How am I affected?

PRAY I talk with Jesus about this experience. I invite him to look with me at what I have drawn. We notice things together. I let myself be open to wonder. I am not judging the picture or the experience. I wait and listen. I savour the experience. "Lord Jesus, faith in your word is the way to wisdom, and to ponder your divine plan is to grow in the truth. Open my eyes to your deeds, and my ears to the sound of your call, that I may understand your will for my life and live according to it." I finish with the Our Father.

Novena to Holy St Joseph
Prayer
O St Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. O St Joseph assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Devine Son all the spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ Our Lord. so that having here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. O St Joseph Please hear my prayer and obtain my petitions. O St Joseph pray for us. (petition) May we have a  happy death as you had with Jesus and Mary by your side.  (edited version from 50th-century prayer)

November 30th, 2017
I have just had a direct answer to prayer.
This has given me hope that my novena to the Immaculate Conception for some direction and motivation which I just started yesterday will be answered. The site for remembering to say your Novena is at PrayMoreNovenas.com
They send you the Novena by email and it is a good way to keep up daily prayer even if it is petitioning all the time.
